Manchester United Put Three Past Everton

|

Manchester United beat Everton 3-1 in the FA Cup third round, as they carry on their unbeaten run of seven games.

Antony opened the scoring inside four minutes as Old Trafford erupted to the dismay of the 9,000 Everton fans who made the journey across the M62 to Manchester.

United had more momentum going forwards than the Toffees, as they looked like they could not get out of their half in the first ten minutes. Demari Gray struck a shot towards David De Gea’s near post with the ball hitting the post and bouncing off the United number one for a corner.

In the 14th minute Connor Coady put the Toffee’s level as the ball went through De Dea’s legs from a Neil Maupay shot at the Stretford End.

Marcus Rashford and Everton defender Ben Godfrey locked horns as Godfrey pulled Rashford down with both sets of players coming across to the incident that was dealt with by referee Darren England.

Both Anthony Martial and Christian Eriksen went close for the Red Devils before halftime. Erik Ten Hag’s side started the second half the better team bringing the game to Everton and showing more intensity in their press.

This resulted in United scoring from a Marcus Rashford cross into the six-yard box which was put away by the man who previously scored in the same goal in the first half, Everton defender Connor Coady.

Frank Lampard’s side thought they had scored with 20 minutes to go through a counterattack that was knocked in by Dominic Calvert Lewin, however, the goal was ruled out for offside due to Gray’s run in the build-up.

Substitute Alejandro Garnacho went down in added time with Godfrey fouling the 18-year-old in the box, a penalty was awarded and converted by Rashford as he carried on his brilliant form.

Manchester United next play Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup Quarter Finals on Tuesday at eight o’clock.
