Why Weghorst would be a good signing – Opinion

|

Yesterday, it was announced that Manchester United had been given the “green light” to sign Wout Weghorst on loan til the end of the season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Weghorst is currently on loan at Bestikas, having moved there from Burnely in the summer and it is fair to say that the striker has endeared himself to the passionate Turkish faithful as he has scored eight goals in 16 appearances in the Super Lig this season [Transfermarkt].

I think the signing of Weghorst would be a good one for United because it is only for six months, which means that the club would have some much needed depth for the remainder of the season as currently United only have Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford as their two recognised centre forwards, and it also means that in the summer, they can afford to spend big on a new striker under hopefully new owners.

Another reason as to why I think Weghorst, who scored twice for The Netherlands in their Round of 16 clash with Argentina,  would be a good signing for the Reds is because his profile suits the way that Erik ten Hag wants to play as he is a player who can score goals and he presses all day long, similar to the mould of Edinson Cavani, who spent two seasons in Manchester.

Another reason as to why I think signing the Dutch striker would be good for United is because according to The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, he says that ten Hag likes the striker [The Athletic], and this is significant because it means that the manager will know what his strengths are and recently ten Hag spoke about the need for the Man United players to have personality, and you could argue that Weghorst from a personality aspect fits the bell perfectly for United, as we can recall his words with Lionel Messi.

For six months, Weghorst, would be a good signing for United in my opinion.
