United Exit The FA Cup After A Very Disappointing Performance At Molineux

|

Any hopes of Manchester United making it to a second consecutive FA Cup Final were blown away by a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who out-played Ole Gunnar Solksjaers’ side, at Molineux.

After being beaten, by Arsenal in the Premier League, last time out, the defeat at the hands of Wolves was the first time that Manchester United have lost back-to-back games under the Norwegian.

But whilst Manchester United could consider themselves unlucky to have lost at Arsenal, after creating numerous chances but failing to take them, Wolves was a different kettle of fish.

Just when a decent performance was needed, as we approach the back-end of the season, Manchester United gave their most lacklustre performance since Solksjaer took over.

Following the 2-1 defeat, with Marcus Rashford’s 95th-minute goal being nothing more than a consolation goal, Solksjaer had this to say to the media, as reported by BBC:

“This was the poorest we’ve played.

“We started too slowly and played into their hands. Our possession wasn’t bright enough and quick enough, so it’s disappointing.”

It is, something just didn’t look right with United’s play being described by Solksjaer as:

“I didn’t think we had enough quality in the last third, enough combination play.

“We had decent dominance with the ball in the first half but that doesn’t help if you give the ball away and they can counter.

“This was a big step backwards, mainly because of the quality of the possession and the passing.”

It was, hopefully it was a one-off especially with a Champions League two-legged quarter-final against Barcelona on the horizon.
