MEN: Ten Hag to let Maguire go

|

According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United could let Harry Maguire leave in the summer.

Maguire’s former club Leicester City seem to be the club most keen to sign the United captain back to the club with him working under Brendan Rogers during his time at the foxes, it could suit both parties very well.

The fee would be in the region of 30 million euros according to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti.

That would mean United would have lost 50 million euros on Maguire with the Red Devils signing him for 80 million in 2019. The English defender had a good first season at Old Trafford developing a partnership with Victor Lindelof.

It always seemed who would United buy to fit next to Maguire for the centre-back partnership, but in the 21/22 season when Raphael Varane signed from Real Madrid it was clear to see Maguire was the player who needed to be replaced after countless mistakes and errors which were costing United games.

The Sheffield-born defender has only played 4 Premier League games for United this season and this could be the best option for him and United.

Manchester United would be able to free up some salary space with Maguire earning £200,000 a week, which is £10,400,000 a year, this would allow Ten Hag to also bring in a good enough backup defender if Martinez or Varane were injured or a high-quality defender to challenge United’s starting centre backs.

His contract runs out at the end of the 2025 season but will he be a United player then?
