Three United Youth Team Players Join Altrincham

Three players from Manchester United’s Academy have joined National League club Altrincham for an innovative loan scheme.

The scheme was created by Manchester United Academy coaches and Sonny Aljofree, Maxi Oyedele and Joe Hugill will take part in the scheme until the end of this season.

The innovative scheme builds on the pro experience of playing in a competitive match and brings experiences of what it is like to play in those games.

They will also learn what intensity and skill are vital to play senior football and to play in non-league football is a perfect way to start.

The Head of Player Development and Coaching at United, Travis Binnion has said “Each of them will hugely benefit from this unique learning opportunity, playing senior football in a competitive environment whenever we agree that the time is right for both clubs.” [Man United]

All three of the players taking part in the scheme were in last year’s FA Youth Cup winning team which beat Nottingham Forest Under 18s 3-1 at Old Trafford in May of last year.

One of the players has already played for Altrincham in the National League, Poland Under 19 international Maxi Oyedele.

Both Hugill and Aljofree have had a good season so far and will look to take their form to the South Manchester club.

United have always had a strong relationship with Altrincham that goes back years with the Robins allowing the Red Devils to use their pitch for academy games which notably Marcus Rashford played in.

Most of those games were also free to go to with United wanting to showcase their latest talent and to engross fans to support both Altrincham and Manchester United.
