Luckhurst reports that United would be open to selling striker

|

Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News is reporting that Manchester United would be open to selling Anthony Martial in the summer [Manchester Evening News].

Martial has only featured in 14 games in all competitions, and the Frenchman has only six started Premier League games [Transfermarkt], which shows that he has rarely been fit for a sustainable amount of time and as a result the club are looking to sign a new number nine.

His inability to stay fit has been a major concern for United and Erik ten Hag this season because when he plays United are arguably a better team because of his movements, link-up play, and his understanding with Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, for example.

The current United number nine joined the club back on deadline day of 2015 and he is under contract with the Old Trafford outfit until 2024 and they do have an option to exercise an additional year, so this summer could be the best opportunity for the club to cash in on the Frenchman as Luckhurst, who has sources within the club, is saying that United “decided to classify Martial as sellable before his latest injury setback last week” [Manchester Evening News].

Martial, who featured in the second half of United’s Carabao Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest, could be replaced by the likes of Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane or Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, as according to Luckurst of the Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag has made it clear that United need a centre-forward in the summer and that the club are intrigued by both Kane and Osimhen [Manchester Evening News].

The Manchester United journalist is also reporting that ten Hag likes Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos and Mohammed Kudus, who played under the Dutchman when they were both at Ajax during the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons [Transfermarkt].
