Manchester United’s Search For A Central Defender Enters A New Stage

|

The search to find a central defensive partner, for Harry Maguire, continues to generate transfer tittle-tattle.

Today (Friday), two pieces of speculation have caught my eye.

The first comes courtesy of The Manchester Evening News which suggests that Manchester United have a wish-list consisting of three names.

Seemingly, the Brighton defender, Ben White, has been added to a list that already contains Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig) and Raphael Varane (Real Madrid).

Any of the trio, in my opinion, would help solidify a Manchester United defence that has looked fragile this season,

However, another source, The Express is of the opinion that Manchester United’s recent early exit from the Champions League may have dented their chances of landing 22-year-old Upamecano in the January transfer window.

As for 27-year-old Varane, it is a move I have a gut feeling is a non-starter which leaves the possibility of Manchester United signing 23-year-old White.

White spent last season on loan at Leeds United where he performed so well the Yorkshire side wanted to sign the defender on a permanent basis, but Brighton were insistent he was not for sale.

But has that stance changed in a matter of months?

I doubt it very much.

Which leads me to concur none of the trio will be pulling on our famous red shirt any time soon.

But is this a view you concur with or disagree with?
