Manchester United Name Their 25-Man Premier League Squad And There Are Two Unfortunate Omissions

|

Although the 2020 / 2021 Premier League season is well underway, clubs had until yesterday to officially declare their 25-man squads.

The rules dictate that you can only have a maximum of 17 players that are not homegrown. They also stipulate that players under the age of 21, do not have to be named.

When Manchester United’s list was published (as below with home-grown players followed by *)

Squad – Eric Bailly, Edinson Cavani, David De Gea, Bruno Fernandes, Timothy Fosu-Mensah*, Fred, Lee Grant*, Dean Henderson*, Odion Ighalo, Daniel James*, Victor Lindelof, Jesse Lingard*, Harry Maguire*, Anthony Martial, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay*, Alex Telles, Paul Pogba*, Marcus Rashford*, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw*, Axel Tuanzebe*, Donny Van De Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka*

U-21s – Tahith Chong, Diogo Dalot, James Garner, Mason Greenwood, Teden Mengi, Facundo Pellistri, Brandon Williams

there were two notable omissions – Phil Jones and Sergio Romero.

Their omissions only go to fuel the suggestion that both players will be leaving the club in the January transfer window, something when it comes to Phil Jones, we have already covered – manchester-united-defender-looking-to-leave-the-club-in-january-transfer-window.

Romero’s omission is also something we expected, with the return of Dean Henderson to the fold.

However, it does seem cruel that both players are now, until the transfer window opens, in limbo, unable to play in the Premier League.

The only way they can leave the club before January is if they can come to, by mutual consent, an agreement to have their contracts nullified, but will that happen?

Perhaps with Romero but I cannot see it happening with Jones, how about you?

Manchester United v Chelsea?

Manchester United to Win!

Chelsea to Win!

A Draw!
