Defender injury update

Erik ten Hag provided an update on the latest regarding Diogo Dalot, who was substituted during Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic at Old Trafford last night.

The right-back came off in the first half to be replaced by Aaron Wan-Bissaka but he did walk down the tunnel without any assistance, which hopefully suggests that the injury is not a severe one.

Speaking to the media after the game, ten Hag said that he was taken off as a precaution, which is good news because he missed the first three games that United had since the World Cup after he came back from the finals with what looked like a hamstring injury and United do not want their right-back to be facing a spell on the sidelines,

Ten Hag said: “Diogo Dalot went off before half-time. We have to wait, I think it is not serious but it was a precaution to get him off and not take a risk when we have, on Saturday, an important game” [via Daily Mail].

The fact that ten Hag said he thinks the injury that Dalot has suffered is not serious is a boost because United have a lot of games coming up, with three Premier League games in eight days, and United need to ensure that they have as many options as possible to get through those important games.

However, United are facing an anxious wait to see if the full-back will be fit enough to recover in time for the Manchester Derby, but should he not make it, then the Reds have a more than capable replacement in Wan-Bissaka, who has played well in recent weeks and it was the same against Charlton last night.

United are next in action against Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday at 12.30pm UK time and it is an important game as the Reds look to consolidate their spot in the top four.
