United midfielder superb in win over Charlton – Opinion

|

After making an impact off the bench in recent weeks, Fred started and played superbly against Charlton Athletic as he helped Manchester United win 3-0 and book their place in the last four of the Carabao Cup.

Fred had a good performance as he brought his energy and work-rate to the United midfield, and he was unlucky not to score the second goal of the game as his free-kick crashed against the post.

If there was any player who deserved to see that goal go in, then it would have been Fred because of his recent performances and attitude but the Brazilian did get a goal involvement as it was his pass that found his compatriot Antony to score the opening goal of the game and send United on their way to another home win, which is now their eight straight home win in all competitions.

The statistics also backs up Fred’s performance from last night because according to StatmanDave, Fred was ranked number one for the number of chances created (4) and he made 2 interceptions, won 2 out of his 3 tackles and he completed 43 passes in what was a brilliant all-round display from the United number 17.

Fred will be hoping to start for Erik ten Hag’s side when they take on Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday, and I personally would start him because United need an energetic midfielder in the middle of the park that will not only close the space but can use his energy to drive forward because City is not a game whereby you can dominate the entire game for 90 minutes.
