World Cup Day 11 round-up

|

It was a positive evening on Day 11 of the World Cup as qualification was secured for four Manchester United players.

It was crunch time on Day 11 of the World Cup with plenty at stake for as many as seven nations at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

From a Manchester United perspective, there were two nations that had United players as Tyrell Malacia of the Netherlands andย  Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford of England were hoping to safely advance to the Round of 16 stage.

Tyrell Malacia and his Netherlands team-mates qualified for the next round of the World Cup as group winners with a 2-0 win over host nation Qatar, who were already eliminated. United target Cody Gakpo, who has been heavily linked with Erik ten Hag’s side scored against Qatar to make it three goals in three games for the PSV forward at this World Cup. However, Tyrell Malacia did not feature for Louis van Gaal’s side as he was an unused substitute.

Three other Manchester United players joined Malacia in securing their passage into the next round as Marcus Rashford scored twice to send England into the Round of 16 as they compressively beat Wales 3-0. The United forward scored a brilliant free-kick that no keeper would save, such as the quality of the goal.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw started the game as they helped England keep their second clean sheet of the tournament and both United defenders had a positive game tonight, which should give them confidence for the upcoming games.

England will now face Senegal, who earlier today defeated Ecuador 2-1 to advance to the Round of 16 stage.

Tyrell Malacia and his Dutch team-mates will face the United States of America for a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup as the USA beat Iran 1-0 at the Al Thumama Stadium, with Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic scoring the only goal of the game.
