Day 12 at the World Cup

|

Today in the World Cup Group C and D are both in action with France and Argentina playing.

France face the north African team in Tunisia at 3 o’clock today with Manchester United defender Raphael Varane looking to make a second appearance in the tournament.

Making his first start in this World Cup on the last matchday against Denmark in a 2-1 for France.

It seems like France manager Didier Deschamps is trying to figure out who is the best starting centre backs for Les Bleus, so with France only conceding one goal in their first and second game, we could see Varane feature.

On the Tunisia side of things, Birmingham City loanee Hannibal whose parent club is United might also feature as he did against Denmark.

Moving on to the other 3-clock game in Group D, where Australia face Denmark, Christian Eriksen will look to make his third consecutive appearance in the tournament against the Socceroos.

A win for Denmark is vital with Australia sitting two points ahead of the Danes, a win for Kasper Hjulmand’s side would be enough to advance into the round of 16.

Equally, if that game ends up a draw and Tunisia beat France, Tunisia could be the country going through, as they are in a similar situation to Denmark.

The first match of the later kick-offs is Lewandowski vs Messi, it is Poland vs Argentina.

As seen in the tweet above some reports are suggesting that Manchester United centre-back, Lisandro Martinez will not start against Poland today.

It does seem unusual not to start him again with him playing the last game for Argentina where they won 2-0 against Mexico and previously lost 2-1 to Saudi Arabia, where he did not come off the bench.

No one is safe in this group a win for all four teams is crucial, if Argentina lose to Poland and Saudi Arabia draws or wins, or even if Mexico win, Argentina and Lionel Messi’s hope of a World Cup is over.

The last game is also at seven o’clock today is Saudi Arabia vs Mexico, with no United players featuring in both squads.
