United u21s beat Feyenoord

|

Manchester United Under-21s rounded off their Premier League International Cup campaign in fine style as they defeated Feyenoord 2-1 at Carrington last night.

The Reds looked to show their intent from the off as they started the game the better of the two teams, trying to get a breakthrough, however, that breakthrough came in the 17th minute as Charlie McNeill finished off Omari Forson’s cross into the box to give United the lead.

However, as the game went on, the visitors started to get a foothold in the game as they pushed for an equaliser but Radek Vitek was forced into preventing Slory from equalising. Nevertheless, the Dutch side were level shortly after the missed chance from Slory as Feyenoord defender Milan Hokke was on hand to smash the ball home, following a free-kick that rebounded off the back of the wall.

Just after the 60th minute, United got themsleves ahead in the game for the second time as McNeill scored his second of the game after some fine work from Noam Emeran, who made a bursting run from the left-hand side before placing the ball into the path of McNeill, who curled home a brilliant strike.

The game was not done yet as Vitek was once again called into action, this time to stop Leo Sauer from making it 2-2. Mark Dempsey’s side saw the rest of the game out to secure their first victory of the tournament in what will have been a valuable learning experience for the players.

Next up for the Under-21s is a Premier League 2 clash against Blackburn Rovers at Leigh Sports Village on Friday night at 7pm UK time.
