Exciting United youngster signs new long-term contract

Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo has penned a new long-term contract at the club.

The new contract represents a meteoric rise for the 17-year-old as this season he has made his debut for the first-team and according to the club’s official website, he is one of eight players that have come through the United academy to play for the first team this season [Man United].

Mainoo has made two appearances for United under Erik ten Hag this season as he started in the Carabao Cup quarter-final game against Charlton Athletic, which United won 3-0 just before Christmas and his second appearance came as a substitute during United’s 3-1 win over Reading in the fourth-round of the Emirates FA Cup.

It is clear to see that ten Hag believes in him, and he also been on the bench six times in the Premier League [Transfermarkt].

He was in the matchday squad for the games against Manchester City and Arsenal in the league, which shows the excellent progress he is making. Mainoo has also featured for the Reds at Under-18s and Under-21s level and he more than held his own in the Papa Johns Trophy against senior sides, such as Carlisle United, Fleetwood Town and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The central midfielder has also represented England at youth level as he has featured for both the England Under-17s and Under-18s over the past 16 months. He made his debut for the England Under-17s in October 2021 and he has also made two appearances for the Under-18s to go with the three appearances that he made for the Under-17s [Transfermarkt].

Those who have seen Mainoo play for the academy teams will not have been surprised at his new long-term contract because he has a vast amount of potential and according to Simon Stone of the BBC, he tweeted that the “coaching staff at have really high hopes for him”, which can be seen below.
