United Players Playing Today- Day 6

|

The World Cup reaches its second round of fixtures today in Qatar, with home nations Wales and England playing.

Wales kick things off against Iran in the early game of the morning, no current Manchester United players are playing for Wales in this World Cup, however former United players Daniel James and Dylan Levitt are a part of the dragon’s bench.

Iran played England in their first game of the tournament and lost 6-2 but you would expect they would be better against a welsh team who are only one place below them in the FIFA rankings, with Wales being in 19th and Iran in 20th.

Staying with Group B and England plays their second group game of the tournament against the USA as the three lions have never won a game against the Americans in a major tournament with a draw and a loss.

England manager Gareth Southgate said “We have to try and make history, number one. We are good at that, we are good at talking highly of ourselves as a nation on the basis of very little evidence.”[PlanetSport]

The United players in the squad are all fit, Maguire and Shaw would be expected to start with how well they did against Iran, Shaw getting an assist and Maguire with a good defensive performance and being an inclusive part of the set pieces.

Marcus Rashford may even start with him coming off the bench and scoring after having three touches on the ball but the only players in his place seem to be either Sterling or Bukayo Saka.

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison is not fit to feature in the game. Captain Harry Kane is fit to start the game after an ankle problem in the first game.

Tyrell Malacia could feature in the Netherlands starting 11 for the first time in the World Cup, as they play Ecuador at 4 o’clock at the Khalifa International Stadium.

Also in Group A, hosts Qatar play Senegal who were beaten by the Netherlands in the first game but they did play well until the first Dutch goal went in, in the 85th minute through United transfer target Cody Gakpo.
