World Cup star ‘gettable’ for United – Dean Jones

|

Manchester United might test the waters for PSV Eindhoven Cody Gakpo in January as he is an “attainable” target, according to football transfer reporter, Dean Jones.

Gakpo got his World Cup campaign in the best possible way as he scored a header past the on-rushing Edouard Mendy in the Senegal goal to give the Netherlands a 2-0 win on Monday evening, and he has been heavily linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams for some time.

What is the latest news surrounding Gakpo?

During the summer, Manchester United were heavily linked with the Dutchman as they were deliberating whether to sign Antony or Gakpo, but they went for the former as they signed the former Ajax man for £80 million.

Gakpo was under serious consideration to join United in the summer as the PSV forward revealed that United manager Erik ten Hag spoke with him to discuss a move to Old Trafford [The Times].

However, even though it did not work out in the summer, United might revisit their attempts to sign the Dutchman because United and Ronaldo have now gone their separate ways after the club terminated his contract after his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

United will face competition to secure the 23-year-old services because Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel that Premier League clubs, such as Southampton and Leeds United are interested in signing him in January after missing out on him in the summer [The Athletic].

Romano also said that PSV will demand £43m for the Dutchman’s services for one of their key assets.

What did Jones say about Gakpo?

Transfer reporter and journalist, Dean Jones believes that a deal between Gakpo and United can be struck as speaking to GiveMeSport, he said that “Cody Gakpo is looking more and more like a suitable person to come in, we know that he’s gettable.

“Obviously PSV don’t want to lose him, he’s having such a good season and they’re doing really well, but he is attainable and he’s one of the most in-form players in the world right now, he’s got off to a great start with the Netherlands at the World Cup.”
