United Concede Last Minute To Crystal Palace

|

Manchester United suffer a late equaliser to Crystal Palace as they sit three points off Manchester City in second.

United made three changes to the team that beat City on Saturday with notably new signing Wout Weghorst coming in for Anthony Martial up front.

Erik Ten Hag’s side started as the better team at the cold Selhurst Park stadium, the reds were on the front foot, playing their usual passing plays to gain ground up front and passing through the Crystal Palace press.

United seemed to silence the stadium that was built in 1924, which meant that they could focus on how they wanted to win the game. In the first 25 minutes, both teams were jabbing and trying to figure out how the other team would play without looking for the knockout straight away.

Palace striker Odsonne Édouard forced David De Gea to make his first save of the game, tipping the ball onto the crossbar.

The away side opened the scoring one minute before halftime with Marcus Rashford playing Christian Eriksen through the left channel as he found Bruno Fernandes who scored his fourth goal of the season.

United had a shout for a penalty as Chris Richards looked to get the ball off Scott Mctominay but was seen by the referee as Richards got a minor touch to the ball.

Marc Guehi headed towards goal off a set piece as De Gea kept United in the game, Casemiro brought down Wilfred Zaha in a Crystal Palace transition and received his fifth booking of the season which means he will miss the big clash against Arsenal on Sunday.

In extra time Michael Olise scored a superb free kick from outside the box, with De Gea left helpless as Olise put the ball precisely in the top corner.

Manchester United are now three points behind Manchester City in second as they face Arsenal on Sunday at 16:30.
