Two United players into the quarter finals

On Day 14 of the World Cup, two Manchester United players booked their place in the quarter finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Tyrell Malacia and two former Manchester United players safely made it through to the quarter finals as the Netherlands defeated the United States of America at the Khalifa International Stadium. It was a former United players who set the Dutch on their way as Memphis Depay opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the game after excellent team play to give Louis van Gaal’s side the lead.

On the strike of half-time, another Man United player got on the scoresheet, this time it was the popular Daley Blind, who spent four years at United and it was his right-footed strike that gave the Netherlands a two goal advantage heading into the half-time break.

It looked as though there would be a nevy ending to the game as USA pulled one back in the 76th minute through Haji Wright, but Denzel Dumfries, who has been a target of United in the past settled any nerves as he made it 3-1 with nine minutes plus stoppage time to go.

Current United player Tyrell Malacia was an unused substitute for the fourth game running.

However, there was an appearance for one current Man United player during last night’s round of 16 games as Lisandro Martinez came on in the second half and played 40 minutes during Argentina’s 2-1 win over Australia.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring in his 1,000 game and Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez made it 2-0 to Lionel Scaloni’s side before Australia got one back 2-1 through a Fernandez own goal.

With Australia chasing an elusive equaliser that would have forced the game into extra-time, Lisandro Martinez made an outstanding block to prevent Australia from equalising in the closing stages.

Congratulations to Malacia and Martinez!
