What am I on about you might be asking?
Well, it is that familiar old quest to find the perfect central defensive partnership.
I have run out of fingers when it comes to the number of players we have tried to find the perfect combination and that figure is certainly exceeded by the number of players we have been linked with buying in recent times.
However, the latest possible signing, Raphael Varane, the Real Madrid defender, seems to be a quest that is over before it has even begun.
There is no doubting that the 27-year-old defender is a remarkable defender and that his acquisition could be the absolute answer to our central defensive woes, but, according to The Sun, Real Madrid will not entertain the possibility of losing their star defender and have labelled Varane as – “untransferable”.
I guess it is time to look elsewhere then!
