Manchester United’s Deal To Sign Cavani Leaves Some Awkward Questions To Be Answered

|

On transfer deadline day, Manchester United managed to get the deal over the line that saw Edinson Cavani become the latest recruit to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s squad.

The 33-year-old Uruguayan international signed a one-year deal with the option of another year.

Now, sat here in the editorial chair, I will openly admit that I remain unconvinced about this move.

Is Cavani the player that will turn our club around or is he just here for one last pay day?

Already, with Cavani yet to pull on a Manchester United shirt in anger, column inches are being generated relating to his next move with Goal, suggesting the striker is already dreaming of a move to Boca Juniors after his deal at Old Trafford expires.

In the build up to Cavani’s arrival, I did mention – manchester-united-set-to-announce-the-signing-of-zlatan-ibrahimovic-mark-two – that I hoped Cavani could do for us what Zlatan Ibrahimovic did when he too became a Manchester United player in the twilight of his career and proved to be a great success.

But another part of me feels he might become the next Radamel Falcao.

However, while I mull over what impact Cavani will make, it seems Manchester United, when David Moyes was in charge according to The Athletic, turned down the opportunity to sign the player when, quite probably, he would have had the chance to make a far greater impact.

But, when it comes to the signing of Cavani, I will finish by revealing the results of a poll Vital Manchester United initiated which asked the following question:

Who Would You Really Prefer To United To Sign?

With the two options being Edinson Cavani or Ousmane Dembele.

The results were close with 53% preferring Cavani to the 47% that opted for Dembele.

Personally, I am not sure I wanted either!
