Manager pleased with the progress but wants more

|

Speaking to the club’s official media team ahead of Manchester United’s trip to the Emirates, Erik ten Hag says that he is satisfied with the progress that United have made in the first part of the season, but he wants more from his team.

In the Premier League, Man United have played 19 games, which is the halfway stage of the season, and their record reads like this; 12 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats [Premier League].

Since suffering back-to-back defeats to Brighton and Brentford at the start of the season, United have turned their season around as they currently sit in fourth place in the league and are the only English side who are left in all four competitions.

United, who are on a 10 game unbeaten run, will be hoping to show how far they have come since August when they travel to the league leaders to face Arsenal.

Whilst United have made progress this season, the manager says that sitting in third place is not something to take pleasure from, because at United the demands are to win and compete for trophies.

“You always want more. But I think we have to be happy with where we are now. But we also know we want to be better. Because third is not good enough. We have to be better, we are in a good position, but we have to battle for more.
“And that means we have to work hard every day on the training ground, around the training ground to do the right things and be ready for every game. Because in the Premier League, there are no easy games, every game you have to battle.
“Every game you need 100 per cent energy and a good plan. And when you execute it well, we have a good chance with our team, our players we have to win games. That is what we have to aim for. We have to go from game to game and don’t look to far ahead” [via Man Utd].

The game between United and the Gunners kicks off at 4.30pm UK time, and for those watching in the UK, the game will be shown live on Sky Sports.
