“Last time we beat Arsenal without Casemiro” – says United boss

|

Erik ten Hag gave his reaction to the booking that Casemiro picked up during Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace last night, which will now see the Brazilian miss the game against Arsenal on Sunday.Ā

The United number 18 picked up the yellow card in the 8oth minute as he fouled former United winger, Wilfred Zaha, but United could have controlled the game better in the second half at Selhurst Park because had they controlled the game like they did in the first half, then Casemiro would not have felt the urge to commit a foul like that.

Ten Hag did acknowledge that even though losing Casemiro is a huge blow for United as he has been such an important player this season, United did beat Arsenal earlier on in the season 3-1 without the Brazilian, and they will need that same discipline, desire and intensity if they are to beat Arsenal on Sunday at the Emirates.

“Casemiro is obviously a really important player for us and he is one of the reasons why we are in this position [in the league] now.

“But also last time we beat Arsenal without Casemiro. We have a squad and we have to fill that gap and make a proper plan.

“The squad have to fill it and make sure as a team we are ready to beat Arsenal” [via Man Utd].

It can be argued that United should have had a penalty in the second half for a foul on Scott McTominay, which had the penalty been given and United had converted it, then that would have given ten Hag the perfect opportunity to take off Casemiro.
