Everton interested in United man

|

Writing on the Ornstein Monday column for The Athletic, David Ornstein is reporting that Everton are one of several clubs who are interested in securing the signature of Anthony Elanga on loan from Manchester United this month [The Athletic].

According to Transfermarkt, the 20-year-old has only played 624 minutes for United this season, so it is understandable as to why he wants to move out on loan, however, those clubs including Everton only have until Tuesday to complete a deal for the Sweden international.

Several clubs, including PSV Eindhoven and Borussia Dortmund have been linked with the Swede, however, Erik ten Hag would prefer to keep Elanga because United have a lot of games lined up over the coming weeks and the Reds are the only English club who are still competing in all four competitions (Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Europa League).

Elanga, who can play a number of positions across the front three, came off the bench in United’s most recent game, which was the 3-1 win over Reading in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday evening.

If a move to Goodison Park did materialise for example, then it would be a good move for him because he will get regular game time and with Sean Dyche now taking over at Everton, it means that Elanga can develop his game further and he will be asked to do both sides of the game, and that is something that suits him because his work ethic is of a high standard. His directness can be beneficial under Dyche as well, however, it remains to be seen what the new Toffees manager’s style of play will be.

Elanga burst on to the scene under Ralf Rangnick and he scored the equalising goal for United against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League earlier last February. However, as with any young player, they will experience bumps on the road, which is all part of the learning process.
