“Everton exploring a deal” for United winger – says Mail journalist

|

Dominic King of the Daily Mail is reporting that Everton are exploring “a deal for Anthony Elanga”, on what is likely to be a loan deal, but the journalist did not specify whether it was a permanent or loan.

The possibility of Elanga signing for Everton was first mooted last month when The Athletic reported that the Toffees were interested in signing the United forward on loan in January [The Athletic].

Elanga might not be guaranteed minutes at United following the imminent arrival of Wout Weghorst from Burnley, which should be completed today. If the move was to happen then it would make sense for all parties because Elanga needs valuable first team minutes and exposure, whilst Everton need to add attacking options if they are to get out to the relegation places and start moving up the table.

Elanga, who has started seven times for Erik ten Hag this season [Transfermarkt], got a start on Wednesday night as he played up front for Manchester United in their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Charlton Athletic, in which the Reds ran out 3-0 winners to book their spot in the semi-finals of the League Cup.

A move to Everton if it occurs, would enhance Elanga’s development because not only will he have to do his defensive duties but he will also have space to run into and with his direct style of play he can beneficial for Everton and Frank Lampard.

Elanga burst on to the scene under Ralf Rangnick and he scored the equalising goal for United against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League earlier this year in February. However, as with any young player, they will experience bumps on the road, which is all part of the learning process.
