Erik ten Hag has provided an update on the situation regarding Donny van de Beek, and it is devastating news for United and the midfielder.

Ten Hag told the club’s media that the United number 34 will be ruled out for the remainder of the season, with a knee injury, which he suffered during the 3-0 win over Bournemouth at the start of the month.

After the win over Gary O’Neil’s side, ten Hag said that United needed to examine the full extent of the injury that he suffered, and ahead of the Manchester derby, he revealed that the former Ajax midfielder would be out for the duration of the 2022/23 season.

The injury has come at a bad time for the Netherland’s international because during the game against the Cherries, the midfielder looked impressive in the forty-four minutes that he played.

It is a great shame that the midfielder will not be able to add to the four starts that he has made under ten Hag this season [Transfermarkt] because United have a lot of games to navigate in the second half of the season, however, speaking to the media, ten Hag said that he thought the news was “quite positive” because his “in the long term, his knee will be okay”, which should hopefully allow him to continue to play at the highest level [via Man Utd].

“I think it is quite positive news,” Ten Hag told club media at Carrington.

“Of course, the bad news is he is out for the rest of the season, but the good news is, in the long term, his knee will be okay and he will be ready again to play at the highest levels and will be ready for the start of pre-season” [via Man Utd].

Hopefully the United midfielder can have make a speedy recovery and have a good rehabilitation period, that will allow him to be fit for the start of United’s pre-season tour in the summer ahead of the 2023/24 season.
