Berbatov impressed by Casemiro

Manchester United hero, Dimitar Berbatov has lauded the impression that Casemiro has made on Manchester United after signing for the club back in August from Real Madrid when giving an interview to the official website [manutd.com].

After 9 trophy-laden years at Real Madrid, Casemiro joined United, who were in desperate need to strengthen their midfield options and it seemed like Casemiro fitted like a glove because United have been crying out for a defensive midfielder for years.

Casemiro’s role in the United team is to do the hard yards that allows others around him to shine and the former United number 9 says that Casemiro has been doing his role impeccably this season.

“Casemiro was a rock at Real Madrid. I mean he was someone who is doing the dirty work. Someone who does not necessarily take the applause. Or does not get the headlines.”

The stats also back up Berbatov’s quotes because according to Fbreb.com, it shows that Casemiro has a high ranking in his tackling (94 percentile), interceptions (82 percentile), blocks (99 percentile), clearances (98 percentile) and aerial duels won (99 percentile), which suggests that he is doing the “dirty work” effectively and efficiently that allows United to win the ball back quickly and snuff out opposition danger when defending.

Berbatov compared him to former United midfielder and coach, Darren Fletcher, who’s selfless work in midfield, along with his non-stop running in allowed United to dominate both domestically and Europe.

“But you need players like that. [Darren] Fletcher was like that. He is running up and down the pitch and doing the dirty work. You need basically to have players like this and Casemiro is exactly that type of player that can give you that confidence in front of the defence and give a breath of fresh air sometimes.”

The United legend is also delighted to hear that the five-time Champions League winner has settled well in the Man United dressing room, which suggests that the unity and togetherness amongst the playing squad is improving and this can only be a benefit for United in the short to long-term.

“I am happy to hear that, in the dressing room, he is also the guy who has been integrated quickly into the team and that helps as well. That’s good to hear, it’s great for everybody.”
