During an exclusive fan questions and answers session with the official Man United website [manutd.com], Christian Eriksen explained his rationale for choosing the number 14 shirt.
Eriksen joined Man United in the summer on a free from Brentford and it is safe to say that he has been one of the key performers for the Reds this season.

Fans always get fascinated to see what shirt number a player will wear once he has signed on the dotted line when joining a new club and it was no different when Eriksen joined United in the summer.
The two numbers that Eriksen wore regularly before joining United were number 23 with Tottenham and he also wore number 8 when he was starting out as a professional with Ajax. He has also worn number 21 with Brentford and 24 with Inter Milan. However, both those numbers were not available at the time Eriksen joined United because they are the shirt numbers that Luke Shaw, no.23, and Bruno Fernandes, no.8, currently wear for Erik ten Hag’s side.
Even though number 21 and 24 were available, Eriksen had to think about what shirt number he would wear for the upcoming season. However, he did not do the thinking as he recalls a fascinating story of how it was actually his son who selected his number 14.
“I didn’t pick it, my son picked it!
“We had a few options, a few numbers and I wrote him a list of the numbers available, and he picked number 14.”
Eriksen scored his first goal for United in the number 14 during the 2-1 win over Fulham, just before the World Cup.
