Who United could get in the draw – Part 1

|

The draw for the fifth-round of the Emirates FA Cup takes place this evening and United are in the hat as they beat Reading 3-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday evening to book their spot in the Last 16.

We will take a look at the teams who United could face in the draw for the fifth-round. With there being 16 teams, we will split it into two articles.

Brighton – Brighton continued their fine form over Liverpool as they beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 2-1 at the Amex Stadium to confirm their spot in the Round of 16. Should United be drawn against the Seagulls, then it will be a tricky game as they beat United 2-1 on the opening day of the season.

Bristol City – Nigel Pearson’s side beat West Brom 3-0 at Ashton Gate, and the Robbins have happy memories of playing United as they beat Jose Mourinho’s side 2-1 back in 2017 in the Carabao Cup.

Fulham or Sunderland – A replay will be needed to determine the winner of this tie as Fulham and Sunderland played out a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage, however, they are both in the hat for the next round.

Manchester City – United could face local rivals Manchester City after they beat Arsenal 1-0 on Friday night at the Etihad Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur – Tottenham saw off Preston 3-0 at Deepdale on Saturday night, helped by a double from Hueng-min Son, however, United have good memories of playing Spurs as they produced arguably their best performance of the season under Erik ten Hag, so if United do get Spurs, then they will feel confident.

Southampton – The Saints continued their fine cup form this season as they beat Blackpool of the Championship 2-1 at St Mary’s. United could face an all-Premier League tie if they are drawn against Nathan Jones’ side.

Stoke City – Alex Neil’s side beat Stevenage 3-1 at the Bet 365 stadium, and United could potentially be drawn against the Potters.

Wrexham or Sheffield United – The Championship side were given an almighty scare by non-league Wrexham, but the Blades managed to score an equaliser in the 95th minute to draw 3-3, which means that the winner will be decided at Bramall Lane.

The fifth-round games will take place on a midweek and in order to avoid fixture congestion, there will be no replays after the fourth-round of the FA Cup.
