Who United face in the semi-finals

Manchester United confirmed their spot in the last four of the Carabao Cup with a 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic, who were roared on by 9,000 fans at Old Trafford. 

A brilliant left-footed strike from Antony in the 21st minute and a double from Marcus Rashford helped United reach the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, which is the third time in four seasons that the Reds have done so. 

With United hoping to go all the way in this competition and land the first trophy of the season, tonight United will find out which team will stand in their way for a place in Wembley’s showpiece final.

One team that are definitely through are Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United after they saw off Leicester City 2-0 at St James’ Park, thanks to goals from Dan Burn and Joelinton. 

Newcastle’s victory over the Foxes meant that this was the first time in 17 years that they have reached the last four of any domestic competition, with their last semi-final match coming against Manchester United, where they were heavily beaten 4-1 in the FA Cup.

Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers did battle at the City Ground this evening, and the game ended 1-1 after the 90 minutes, which meant that the match had to be decided by penalties. Nottingham Forest defeated Wolves 4-3 on penalties to reach the semi-final stage.

Southampton produced the shock result of the round as they beat Manchester City 2-0 at St Mary’s to book their place in the last four of the League Cup.

The draw will be made shortly and United could face one of; Newcastle, Nottingham Forest or Southampton in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The draw for the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, which consists of a two-legged affair, will be made following the conclusion of the Southampton and Manchester City game and it will be shown on Sky Sports for those in the United Kingdom.
