United wait to learn third-round FA Cup opponents

|

The third round draw for the 2022/23 FA Cup will take place tonight and Manchester United are in the hat.

There are 66 teams in the hat that are awaiting to find out who they will face in football’s oldest cup competition. There are two replays that are scheduled to take place in order to complete the entire set for the third round, which is Charlton Athletic against Stockport County and Dagenham & Redbridge versus Gillingham.

The third-round is the stage where Premier League and Championship clubs enter the competition, and all 44 clubs will be eagerly awaiting to see who they will face in the FA Cup.  The draw is scheduled to take place at Liverpool’s Anfield at between 7.00pm and 7.30pm UK time on Monday night. The reason as to why the draw is taking place at Anfield is because Liverpool won the competition last year, defeating Chelsea on penalties.

This season’s FA Cup will be the first time that United boss Erik ten Hag will get to experience the famous and well-renowned competition and third round draw takes place around the weekend of 7th and 8th January 2023.

United will be hoping to win the FA Cup for the first time since 2016 when a Jesse Lingard strike in extra time broke Crystal Palace hearts and secure a 2-1 win for United.

Man United have won the FA Cup on 12 occasions, only Arsenal have won the tournament more times with a record 14 times.

Last season, Man United got Aston Villa at Old Trafford at the third-round stage and it was Ralf Rangnick’s team who advanced to the next round of the competition with a 1-0 win over Steven Gerrard’s men.
