United trio outstanding in win over Reading – Opinion

|

I thought Manchester United’s Brazilian trio were outstanding in the win over Reading at Old Trafford last night.

United ran out 3-1 winners in the fourth-round of the Emirates FA Cup, thanks to a double from Casemiro and Fred in the second half to book the Reds passage into the fifth-round.

Even though Antony did not score, he grabbed an assist for Casemiro’s audacious chip as it was his through ball that found the United number 18, who’s goal gave United the lead and it opened the floodgates gates for United to score two more.

I thought Antony was excellent as he backed up his Forest performance in midweek. The United wide man was again more direct, and he was the one that was most likely to score in the first-half as he had two curling effort that just went wide, and he also played in Bruno Fernandes with a clever pass in the opening 45, but the Portuguese could not convert. He should have scored late on in the second 45, however, he is getting into good positions.

It is not surprising to see Casemiro put in these performances on a weekly basis as we know the quality that he has got, you do not win the Champions League five times like he has, if you are not a quality player. The former Real Madrid man showed his quality and class as he read the game quicker than his opponents and he scored two excellent goals in what was an superb display from United’s go-to-man.

I felt that Fred also played well when he came on and he got a goal contribution straight away when he assisted Casemiro for his long-ranger, which was the former Sao Paulo’s man second goal of the game. Fred flicked the ball home to score in front of the Stretford End, and what is pleasing to see from Fred’s perspective is that he is regularly making an impact off the bench because he has now scored against Nottingham Forest and Reading when coming on a substitute.
