United team to take on Forest

|

Erik ten Hag has named his Manchester United starting XI for the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.

The United manager has made three changes from the game against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, which sees the introduction of the likes of Victor Lindelof and Tyrell Malacia. Maguire is missing the game against Forest due to suspension.

There were a lot debate surrounding the starting ‘keeper for United this evening, but ten Hag has opted for David de Gea between the sticks.

It was important that United did not rotate too much, and it looks as though ten Hag has got the balance right because he is starting the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, who have underlined their importance to United in recent weeks.

United will line-up with a back four of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia in front of de Gea in goal as the back five look to keep the back door shut and provide a solid foundation for United to win the game.

Casemiro returns from suspension, having missed the Arsenal game at the weekend, and he will be paired alongside Christian Eriksen in what is likely to be a 4-2-3-1 formation.

The front four is an exciting one, which contains the quartet of, Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Wout Weghorst.

With the line-up the Dutchman has selected, it indicates that he is treating this game with paramount importance because should the Reds win tonight, then they will put themsleves in an excellent position with the second leg to come at Old Trafford next Wednesday.

The game between United and Forest kicks off at 8pm UK time, and it will be shown live on Sky Sports for those in the UK.

United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Martinez, Malacia; Casemiro, Eriksen, Fernandes; Antony, Weghorst, Rashford.
