United players at the WC so far – Part 2

|

On Sunday, Vital United looked at how the Manchester United players in Group A to Group D have got on in the World Cup so far, and this article will give a run down on how the other remaining United players have got on in their first two games of the tournament.

There are no Man United representatives in Group F, however, there are as many as seven in Group H and G, including one loanee.

Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot are in Group H with Portugal, who are grouped alongside Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea. Bruno Fernandes is having a brilliant World Cup with his country as in his two matches so far he has scored two goals and grabbed two assists for Fernando Santos’ side that has seen them qualify for the knockout stages.

Fernandes scored twice in the 2-0 win over Uruguay and in the opening game of the tournament he registered two assists as Portugal defeated Ghana 3-2. Diogo Dalot has not featured in either of Portugal’s matches at the World Cup.

There is also another United player in Group F and that is Facundo Pellistri, who is representing Uruguay at the finals in Qatar. Pellistri started Uruguay’s 0-0 draw with South Korea and he showed some positive signs in the 2-0 defeat to Portugal as he came on as a second half substitute.

The other group that has United representative’s is Group G, which is the group that Brazil are in alongside Switzerland, Serbia and Cameroon. All four Man United players have played for Brazil in their opening two games but it has been Casemiro who has been in the headlines.

This was because it was Casemiro’s goal that helped secure a 1-0 win for Brazil against Switzerland on Monday evening.

Casemiro played the full 90 minutes against Serbia and Switzerland. Fred also played the game against Switzerland and he partnered Casemiro at the heart of Brazil’s midfield.

Antony has made a brief cameo in Brazil’s victories over Serbia and the Swiss, and there was a special moment for Alex Telles, who is currently on loan from United to Seville, as he made his World Cup debut coming on for the last four minutes in the 86th minute against Switzerland.
