United midfielder makes history

|

Manchester United’s Brazilian midfielder Fred made history at Emirates Stadium as he became the highest appearance maker for a Brazilian player at the club.

Fred came on in the 71st minute for Antony and his appearance against Arsenal was his 182nd for the Reds, which put him ahead of Anderson in the appearance maker list as he wrote his name into the Manchester United history books.

Fred joined United in the summer of 2018 from Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of £47 million according to the club’s official website [Man Utd], and the United number 18 has had some good moments in a United shirt as he was part of the team that qualified for the UEFA Champions League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019/20 and 2020/21, as well as that he played a vital role in helping United come back from behind to beat Paris Saint-Germain back in 2019 to qualify for the quarter-finals.

He has scored 10 goals and registered 17 assists during his time at United [via Man Utd] and the Brazilian has made 25 appearances under Erik ten Hag this season [Transfermarkt], scoring two goals at Old Trafford, which came against Tottenham and more recently, Nottingham Forest, both in the Premier League.

He also nearly added a third goal of this campaign but his excellent free-kick struck the post during United’s quarter-final game against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup. However, in that game against Dean Holden’s side, the Brazil international, managed to register an assist.

Fred will be hoping to feature against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night as he aims to play his part in helping United win their first major trophy since 2017 and his first with the club.
