“That is an amazing win” Head Coach on WSL success

|

Marc Skinner gave his reaction to the club’s media after United secure a dramatic late win over Reading at the Select Car Leasing stadium to go top of the Women’s Super League [Man Utd].

United were made to work hard to secure all three points as the Royals were frustrating United as they pushed to get a goal that they eventually got through Rachel Williams in the 87th minute of the game.

It these type of victories that shows whether a team has what it takes to become champions because it shows that you have had to dig in and fight to the last second to secure a victory, and this is what United did.

Skinner praised his players and he also had positive words to say about Reading, saying that they are one of the toughest opponents in the WSL.

“That is an amazing win,” he said. “[It was] not as pretty as we would have liked.

“Reading, in my opinion, are always one of the hardest teams to play. Their league position doesn’t reflect the qualities of the coaches and the team, so for us it was a game we had to overcome, and we found a way.

“When Rachel takes that opportunity, that’s the whole reason we brought Rachel to this team. For any doubters, there’s the whole reason. She can step up in that moment and make that moment for us.

“For us, it’s a magnificent moment to say ‘look at how concentrated we can be until the very end and we are never going to give up.’ That is more important for me than any of the 6-0s or [other results]. That is a resilience win today” [via Man Utd].

United are next in action in the Women’s FA Cup away to Sunderland next weekend before playing Everton at home in the WSL on the 5th February in what will be an important game as the race to be crowned champions hots up.
