United man makes long-awaited return

|

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has made his long-awaited return to training as he was pictured training with the main group on Monday at Carrington.

It has been a challenging few months for the United Academy graduate because he has not been able to train with the first-team since the start of the pre-season tour when United were in Thailand because of injury and he was not involved in United’s 4-0 win over Liverpool back in July.

Tuanzebe, who last played for United in the 2021 UEFA Europa League final in Gdansk, spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and Napoli and he will be hoping that he can stay fit from now until the end of the season because with United having so many games lined up over the next few months, the defender might be required to play or provide cover.

The 25-year-old returned to individual training in December and he was put on a personalised training programme at the club’s training ground, which according to the Manchester Evening News included a “zero-gravity running machine” to enhance and boost his recovery process [Manchester Evening News], whilst the Erik ten Hag took a group of non-World Cup and Academy players to a training camp in Spain.

It is unlikely that he will feature in United’s next game against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night at the City Ground but it is a positive to see that the defender is back training with the first-team after a difficult few months undertaking his rehabilitation work in order to get fit.
