De Gea’s Distribution Needs To Get Better -Opinion

|

The loss to Arsenal on Sunday highlighted some issues with how United play out from the back and some of this is down to David De Gea.

The Manchester United number one has always been good at shot-stopping, some people have said that he has been the best shot-stopper in the past five years or so.

However, with the new manager in Erik Ten Hag coming in it looks like De Gea might not be United’s number one anymore. Ten Hag likes his goalkeepers very much like Pep Guardiola, to be comfortable on the ball and be able to spot the right pass at the right moment.

De Gea’s always had to work with managers who do not dominate the ball and are heavily reliant upon the Spaniard to stop anything that comes his way.

At the start of his United career under Sir Alex Ferguson he had many doubters due to him always using his feet to save shots and letting numerous goals in that could have been prevented.

His style of Goalkeeping will still work at other clubs but at United, his time could be coming to an end with small margins at the Red Devils looking to be one of the reasons that are holding this team back, especially against the bigger teams.

It may loom like it is the end for David De Gea at United but he will always be remembered as one of the greatest goalkeepers this club ever had.
