United man delighted to score his first goal

Wout Weghorst scored his first goal in Manchester United colours and after the game he spoke about his delight at scoring for his new club.

Weghorst, who joined United on loan from EFL Championship side Burnley, was there at the right time as he reacted the quickest to an Antony shot that was saved by Wayne Hennessey to score his first United goal and give his side a 2-0 lead going in to the half-time break at the City Ground.

The Dutchman played extremely well as he linked the play well, and he got his rewards with a well taken goal against the Premier League outfit.

Speaking after the game to the club’s official media team, Weghorst said that he was pleased to get on the scoresheet and open his account.

“As a striker, you want to score these goals and also this first one,” Weghorst. “Hopefully, many [more] to come.

“It was a good attack over the right side. It was Casemiro, I think. who played it to Antony and he shot well.

“When I saw the high bouncing ball, I just went straight for the rebound and it came exactly like I hoped in front of my feet, and I could finish it.

“You’re happy and of course you wanted it [his first goal], so that’s a good thing. I’m happy to help the team in this way because I also think it was an important moment shortly before half-time.

“It gave us a way better feeling because, to be honest, the first half was not how we wanted it. I think it was also a good moment” [via Man Utd].

It is important that United stay switched on throughout the game as one lapse of concentration can turn the tie on its head, and this is something that Weghorst was keen to get across when he was speaking to MUTV, the club’s official media team.

“But of course, it’s a match and you saw in the first half, we have to deliver and do things well otherwise you can get in trouble. We were lucky with the 1-1 [Forest’s equaliser] that was cancelled.

“We have to be ready and we have to be focused. You’re never allowed to give this away” [via Man Utd].

The Dutchman is keen to make United’s 3-0 advantage count as they look to finish off the job next week at Old Trafford in the second leg and confirm their place in the final at Wembley on the 26th of February.

“It’s a great result, a great first win in the first match, but of course now it’s a big opportunity to go to the final.

Next up for United is an FA Cup game against Reading at Old Trafford on Saturday, which kicks off at 8pm UK time.
