United boss reaction to Forest win

|

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave his reaction to his side’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.Ā

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Wout Weghorst put United 2-0 up before Bruno Fernandes added a third 89th minute to put United in a strong position to qualify for the League Cup final, which will take place next month.

United played well in the first half but there was a period in the opening 45 where United were sloppy, not staying switched on at key moments, and United got away with one as Nottingham Forest had a goal through Sam Surridge ruled out for offside. After the final whistle, ten Hag speaking to Sky Sports said that United must be “aware” of situations that could let the opposition back in to the game.

“I’m happy, happy with the performance. I think over 90 minutes we controlled the game and there was one moment which could have changed the game. That is what we have to be aware of, that is where we have to improve” [via Man Utd].

However, the Dutchman did acknowledge that United put in a strong showing, which puts them in pole position to reach the final at Wembley, nevertheless, they need to perform in the return leg to ensure that they reach the final.

“But I think overall it was a good performance from our first team and now the first leg is done, with still one leg to go” [via Man Utd].

United are next in FA Cup action against Reading, who are managed by former United midfielder, Paul Ince and the game against the Royals gets underway at 8pm UK time.
