Who needs enemies with friends like these?

Perhaps not strictly true but nevertheless it may well have been a thought that went through Phil Jones mind as he learned the full extent of the injury he picked up whilst training with the England squad yesterday (Tuesday) ahead of travelling to Germany.

Jones injury has been diagnosed as a broken toe with the injury being collected in a challenge with his Manchester United team-mate Chris Smalling.

However, no blame is being apportioned to Smalling with the England coach, Gareth Southgate, remarking about the incident that has blighted Jones England plans,

“It was an innocuous tackle. It`s very unfortunate for him because he was playing very well.”

It is and it appears that Jones could now be set for anything up to a month on the side-lines as Manchester United continue to pursue glory in the Europa League whilst also hunting down a top-four place in the Premier League.
