United are “interested” in signing Premier League ‘keeper – Sam Dean

|

According to Sam Dean of the Telegraph, he is reporting that Manchester United are “interested” in signing Brentford goalkeeper, David Raya and are ready to rival Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea for the ‘keeper’s signature.

Raya, who has a contract up until June 2024 according to Transfermarkt, is likely to leave the Bees at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, which means that he is likely to be amongst the hottest properties in the transfer market.

Dean says that Raya “has admirers at Old Trafford”, and it is no coincidence that United like him because ever since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League back in 2021, the Spaniard has been one of their key performers and he has also won praise for his distribution, with Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp famously saying that, he “should have a number 10 on his back” [via The Telegraph].

The Telegraph journalist is reporting that should United want to sign the former Blackburn ‘keeper, then they might have to pay in the region of £15 million to £20 million to secure the Spain international’s services [The Telegraph]. Thomas Frank’s side will inevitably make a profit on Raya as they signed him for £3 million from Blackburn back in the summer of 2019 [The Telegraph].

However, any move for Raya or another goalkeeper might be dependent on whether United return to Europe’s premier competition.

Technically, David de Gea has six months left on his contract as United are yet to agree a deal with the current number one, but the Telegraph are reporting that de Gea is in talks with the club over extending his 11-year spell at the club [The Telegraph].

De Gea’s distribution and other aspects of his game has improved this season under Erik ten Hag, however, there are still question marks surrounding his long-term future at the club, which should be resolved one way or another come the summer, with de Gea open to staying at Old Trafford.

It is not just United who are interested in signing the Brentford ‘keeper, because Dean is reporting that both Tottenham and Chelsea are keen to sign Raya, which could potentially open up a bidding war between three of England top six club’s [The Telegraph].
