TeamViewer under pressure to end United deal

|

The Telegraph are reporting that the current shirt sponsor of Manchester United, TeamViewer, are under intense scrutiny to discontinue their partnership with the club.

The deal is worth £235 million, and they have told United that they want to reconsider their shirt sponsorship deal with the club as they have received strong criticism from investors, who have expressed the deal as a “sign of hubris and appalling judgement” [Telegraph].

Due to this backlash, reports are saying that because of the astronomical costs involved in the sponsorship, it could mean that TeamViewer leave the deal altogether. They only recently signed a deal to become United’s official short sponsor back in 2021.

The deal with TeamViewer is United’s second biggest commercial deal behind Adidas, which is worth £75-million per year for 10 years. The deal with Adidas is due to expire in 2025 as the club signed a 10-year with the German manufacturer back in 2015.

This would be good news for United fans because it means that the Glazers are not getting the investment that they are so desperate for because due to the decline of the club on the pitch, which they have a major role to play in, it means that the club is less attractive to sponsors as it once was.

The Glazers are in desperate need for an injection of cash because they have plans to renovate Old Trafford and improve the facilities around Carrington so that United can compete with best regularly, so therefore, the news about TeamViewer will come as a hammer blow to them.
