Eriksen a candidate for “signing of the season” – Jones

|

Journalist Dean Jones claims that Christian Eriksen is a candidate for “signing of the season”.

The Denmark international joined Manchester United from Brentford in the summer on a free transfer, and it is safe to say that he has proved to be a valuable acquisition for United.

Eriksen has regularly featured, making 13 appearances for United this season, and he has impressed. In his 13 appearances, he started 12 games and was on the bench for the game against Spurs as he was recovering from an illness that kept him out of the Newcastle game [Transfermarkt.com].

His growing influence on this United team shows how much Erik ten Hag’s trusts the midfielder, and it can be argued that the Danish man is ten Hag’s brain on the pitch because of his vision, passing and his ability to read the game.

He has also played his part in United’s UEFA Europa League campaign as he has featured in all 6 matches. He has recorded two assists in Europe and he has four Premier League assists [Transfermarkt.com], including putting in a delightful cross for Marcus Rashford to head home his 100th Manchester United goal and help United record a 1-0 win over West Ham at the end of last month.

Jones believes that Eriksen’s name should be talked about when discussing the signing of the season.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, the transfer reporter said: “I think when you evaluate the value of the player compared to his performance levels, Eriksen has to be a candidate for signing of the season. He helped them move on, too, from the Frenkie de Jong saga.

“He helped bring a style of play and experience and just a level of performance that United hadn’t been capable of before this moment. So, undoubtedly, he has to be considered one of the best signings of the year.”

Combining with Bruno Fernandes, Eriksen also scored his first goal for the club in the 2-1 win over Fulham. Even though Fernandes has been able to do it in the last few seasons in terms of creating chances, United have also needed a midfielder who can create from deeper positions.

Eriksen in his short United career has provided that as according to Fbreb, the former Spurs creative player is ranked in the 97th percentile for shot-creating actions, which shows he can make things happen with his passing abilities and vision.

Former United midfielder Michael Carrick, who knows a thing or two about passing from deeper positions has been impressed by the United number 14.

“It almost doesn’t matter what position he plays. He can adapt. He’s just a clever, intelligent footballer with great quality.

“I was pleased when we signed him, and he’s not surprised me one bit. He’s a top player.”
