Defender returns – My Europa starting XI – Opinion

|

Manchester United take on Real Sociedad in the Europa League tonight, looking to win by two clear goals in order to top the group and avoid a Round of 32 clash.

Erik ten Hag has selected his Manchester United team to take on Sociedad at the Reale Arena, with the manager making three fascinating changes from the team that beat West Ham 1-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

United are expected to line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Casemiro and Christian Eriksen forming the base of the midfield as United seek to control and dominate the midfield area, which has been a strength of the team this season.

In what is a must-win game, ten Hag has shown his trust and belief in youth as he has selected 18-year-old Alejandro Garnacho to start such a pivotal game. What an opportunity and experience this will be for the Argentine youngster, and hopefully for United’s and his sake he can replicate a similar performance to the one he put on last week against Sheriff Tiraspol, who he made his competitive debut against.

There is a first start of the season for Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek, who is expected to play in the number 10 role alongside Garnacho and captain for the night, Bruno Fernandes. Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line for United up front.

Elsewhere, Victor Lindelof has recovered from his illness that kept him out of the West Ham game to partner Lisandro Martinez at the heart of the United defence.
