Ronaldo breaks silence on bombshell interview

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken publicly for the first time since his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan that was aired last Wednesday and Thursday on the journalist’s Piers Uncensored show.

In the explosive Ronaldo interview, the United number 7 talked about his relationship breakdown with United manager Erik ten Hag, heavily criticised the young players at the club, saying they “do not care”, and he also had some strong words to say about his former team-mates, Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney, who have both been strong critics of the Portuguese megastar’s behaviour this season. He also said that he was being forced out by the club.

The 37-year-old, who is currently preparing for his fifth World Cup with the Portugal national team told reporters to stop [ESPN] asking his team-mates questions about him and that the timing of the interview was not an issue.

He said: “In my life, the best timing is always my timing.

“I don’t have to think about what other people think. I speak when I want. The players know me really well for many years and know the type of person I am.

“It’s an ambitious group (Portugal) that is hungry and focused. So I’m sure it (the interview) won’t shake the changing room’s concentration and focus.”

Ronaldo was also asked about the interaction between him and United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes last week and this is what he had to say.

“We were playing around last week,” Ronaldo said. “His plane was late, and I asked him, ‘Did you come by boat?’ Please, don’t ask players about me, ask about the World Cup.”

Numerous outlets, including The Athletic are reporting that United considering the possibility of terminating Ronaldo’s Man United contract.

As for now Ronaldo’s focus is on helping Portugal go far in the World Cup and they begin their World Cup campaign against Ghana on Thursday, before playing games against Uruguay next Monday and South Korea on 2 December.
