Player ratings from Reading win – Opinion

|

Manchester United beat Reading 3-1 at Old Trafford in the fourth-round of the Emirates FA Cup and here is how we think the players got on.

David de Gea 6.5/10 – The Spaniard did not have much to do as United dominated the game from start to finish, however, you could argue that he should have came for the cross, which Reading scored from. Saved well from Junior Hoilett, nevertheless, towards the end of the first half.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7/10 – Another good performance from the right-back and he played the majority of the game in Reading’s half and he showed his attacking play as he set up Antony and had a good move to create an opportunity for Wout Weghorst.

Victor Lindelof – 7/10 – The Swede was assured at the back and was excellent in possession as he helped United dominate the game by keeping it simple.

Harry Maguire 7/10 – Like Lindelof, Maguire was assured at the back and he played well as he showed good ball progression and passed effectively, opening up angles for United to dictate the game.

Tyrell Malacia 7/10 – Was a good asset for United as he pushed up the pitch, however, should have switched on towards the end of the first half, which gave Reading a great chance to go 1-0 up at the break.

Casemiro 9/10 – Arguably our Player of the Match as not only did he score two goals but he was involved both defensively, stopping transitions, and offensively, which underlined his importance to this United team.

Christian Eriksen 6.5/10 – Had a shot at goal that looked like it was heading in when he followed up from a Marcus Rashford free-kick. Suffered a dangerous challenge off Andy Carroll that meant that he left the ground on crutches, hopefully it is not too serious as he is an important player for United.

Antony 8/10 – Played really well against the Royals, he was creative and was involved heavily in the attacking play as he had two curling efforts that just went wide, and he played an excellent through ball for Casemiro to score his and United’s first of the game.

Bruno Fernandes 7/10 – Grabbed an assist for Fred’s flick, however, even though he is performing well, we would still like him to take his chances.

Marcus Rashford 7/10 – Had a goal disallowed that would have meant he broke the record of becoming the first United player to score in 10 consecutive games at Old Trafford. Got a well earned rest after the 68th minute.

Wout Weghorst 7/10 – Showed tremendous work-rate and his pressing was excellent as he helped pin Reading back and sustain attacks. Thought he got an assist for Rashford, but the goal was ruled out by VAR.

Fred 7/10 – Two goal involvements as he set up Casemiro for his second goal of the game before he scored one himself with a flick in front of the Stretford End.

Alejandro Garnacho 7/10 – Looked lively and bright as he came on. Set up Antony late on in the game but the Brazilian couldn’t convert. Would have been disappointed with his effort after the 78th minute.

Facundo Pellistri 7/10 – Looked lively and showed by ten Hag wants to keep him.

Anthony Elanga 6/10 – Got some more minutes.

Kobbie Mainoo 7/10 – The 17-year-old was solid in possession, kept it simple and if he keeps working hard, then hopefully his opportunities will come. Bright future.
