Player ratings from City win

|

Manchester United made it five straight wins in the Premier League as they beat Manchester City 2-1 at Old Trafford on Saturday, and several players performed well in the 189th Manchester derby.

David de Gea 6.5/10 – The United keeper did not have that much to do in the match as City only had one shot on target.

Aaron Wan Bissaka 8/10 – The United right-back put in another outstanding display as he kept Phil Foden quiet. Could have done better for the City goal at the back post but after that he stepped up and played a part in United’s equaliser as it was his pass that found Casemiro, who played exquisitely played in Bruno Fernandes.

Raphael Varane 8/10 – United’s Rolls Royce at the back and he kept Erling Haaland quiet, and he was in good in possession as well in the air.

Luke Shaw 8/10 – The versatility man put in another strong showing at centre-back, you could argue that Lisandro Martinez has a bit to do to win his place back, given how well Shaw has performed in recent weeks.  Big header late on in the game from the defender.

Tyrell Malacia 8/10 – Brilliant display in stopping Mahrez and made the Algerian’s task harder. He charged up and down, particular in the first half as he justified his selection.

Casemiro 7/10 – Another assured defensive display from the Brazilian as he contributed both defensively and offensively. Helped drive United on in the second half, and it was his pass that led to United’s opener.

Fred 8/10 – Was exceptional against City and he needed to be if United had any chance of winning the game. He man-marked Kevin de Bruyne expertly, making it harder for City to cut through United, which only happened once with Jack Grealish scoring.  Got the crowd on their feet with two tackles on de Bruyne.

Christian Eriksen 6/10 – Was good at linking the play in the first half when United were in possession. After Anthony Martial’s subsitition, the Dane moved in to the number 10 role, but as the second half progressed, he looked more tired.

Bruno Fernandes 8/10 – His work-rate off the ball was exceptional and he was disciplined out of possession to stop City from playing. Got his rewards with a brilliant strike to start the comeback win for United.

Marcus Rashford 8/10 – Played through the pain barrier after requiring treatment at the end of the first half, and he was United’s main man again as he scored the winning goal in the derby after a fine cross by Alejandro Garnacho into the danger zone.

Anthony Martial 6/10 – Came off after 45 minutes, but in the first half, his movements when United had the ball was good, and in the second half, it showed how important he is to the overall team functioning as when he came off in the second half, United lost control.

Antony 6/10 – Good impact when he played as the false 9, made himself a bit of a nuisance.

Alejandro Garnacho 7/10 – His directness was clear to see and it caused City problems, and he capped off a fine cameo with an assist for Rashford after some excellent work by the youngster. He never gave up when he crossed to Rashford as it looked for a moment that there was nothing on but his sharp turn caught the City defenders off guard, and through that turn, he crossed for Rashford to tap home.

Scott McTominay – N/A

Harry Maguire – N/A

Lisandro Martinez – N/A
