New potential date for Leeds fixture

|

Manchester United’s game against Leeds United has been given a potential new date but it can only be played on that that day if both sides do not require a fourth-round FA Cup replay.

The fixture against Leeds was postponed back in September because the Greater Manchester Police were required to help out with preparations for the Queen’s funeral and as a result there were concerns that there would not be many police resources for the game at Old Trafford between the two rivals, which would have been required for a game of this size [Man Utd].

The game has been potentially scheduled for Wednesday 8th February, however, United must beat Reading in their fourth-round clash at Old Trafford, which takes place on Saturday 28th January at 8pm UK time and Leeds must also beat either Accrington Stanley or Boreham Wood – that third-round clash was postponed because of bad weather this week – which takes place on the same day at 3pm UK time.

If both sides avoid a replay, then it means that United and Leeds will meet each other twice in the Premier League in such a short space of time because after the game at Old Trafford, the Reds will travel to Elland Road on Sunday 12th February at 2pm UK time, which according to the club’s official website is to “avoid potential fixture congestion later in the season” [via Man Utd].

However, should either side need a replay, then a new date for the United vs Leeds fixture will need to be found because the fourth-round replays are scheduled for the week commencing the 6th February.
