“Massive incentive to win this game” – Shaw on Fulham

|

Luke Shaw in an interview with the official Man United channels, stressed that it is extremely important for United to pick up three points at Craven Cottage.

“Yeah, I think it is really crucial, obviously because of the result that we had last weekend, losing three points there [so] we have to win this game, it is very important. After dropping points last weekend, it is a massive incentive to win this game”.

The game against the Cottagers will be United’s final competitive game before the World Cup and because of wins for Newcastle and Tottenham yesterday, it is extremely important that United head into the break within touching distance of their top four rivals.

Fulham, who are currently sitting ninth in the league and have only lost once at Craven Cottage all season, will not be an easy proposition for United and Shaw recognises this as he was asked about what he had made of Fulham’s brilliant start to the season, and the left-back said that he has been impressed.

Shaw mentioned that Fulham have “been really good, you can see their style [of play]. They have got a really good manager [and] really good players. Obviously it is really nice to see Andreas there, who is doing really well. It is going to be a really tough game, as like I said, they are a really good side but I think the most important thing is how we prepare for it and how we start the game [as] that is important”.

One source of comfort that United will have for the visit to Fulham is that Aleksander Mitrovic has been ruled out of this game because of a foot injury.

Shaw, who received the news that he will be representing England at the upcoming World Cup in Qatar, also had some positive things to say about Craven Cottage, which is one of the oldest and traditional English grounds.

Shaw who lived nearby Craven Cottage when he was growing up said that it “is always nice to go back down there [to Craven Cottage], being around that area. It is a beautiful stadium, so I’m really looking forward to going there”.

Shaw has happy memories of Craven Cottage as during his last two visits to the River Thames, the full-back has been victorious on both occasions as he was part of the United side that beat Fulham 3-0 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in 2019 and he also played in the 2-1 victory over Fulham, which sent United to the summit back in January 2021.
