Manchester United’s Inactivity In The Summer Transfer Market Is Baffling

|

Life is full of mysteries!

One that currently baffles me is why are Manchester United taking so long to bolster their squad.

After trailing home behind Liverpool and Manchester City last season, in the Premier league albeit by a significant number of points, I had hoped that the hierarchy would take significant steps to bring in talent to help close that gap.

But, whereas our rivals for the top-four have encouraged their support by bringing in several signings, Manchester United (as I write) have only, when it comes to significant signings, added Donny van de Beek to their ranks.

The phrase ‘standing still’ is one that springs to mind.

Therefore, it doesn’t come as a surprise that today, at the press conference ahead of the visit of Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer was pushed on that point.

The gaffer, as reported by The BBC, had this to say:

“The club has been working.

“They know my view.

“The transfer window is still open for a little while. If something happens in or out you will get to know.

Well, that is what we expected Ole although the wait is killing us.

But, worryingly, Ole also added:

“There are many ways of improving a team. I keep reading about the players who should be playing instead of the ones who aren’t because they are performing well. That tells me I have a strong squad. There is competition for places.”

But Ole, it isn’t as strong as those possessed and added to already by Liverpool and Manchester City is it, are we expected to settle for third-best?
